Some childhood photographs become even more special because of the story behind them.
This beautiful childhood storytelling session in the Lincolnshire Wolds was one of those.
For this session, Mum brought along something incredibly special, her own christening gown, which she had worn as a baby herself.
And now, many years later, her little girl was just the right size to wear it too.
So we took the opportunity to create some beautiful photographs of her in it while it still fitted her perfectly.
I absolutely loved the idea of capturing this little piece of family history being passed from one generation to the next.
Childhood Storytelling Photography in the Lincolnshire Wolds
The Lincolnshire Wolds made the perfect setting for this little story.
The beautiful countryside gave us a soft, natural backdrop, while giving her plenty of space to explore and simply be herself.
And she certainly brought plenty of personality with her!
There were gorgeous expressions, little moments of curiosity and all the wonderful character that makes photographing this age so special.
Rather than simply photographing the gown, we wanted to capture her wearing it, all those little expressions and moments that show exactly who she is at this stage of childhood.
A Gown With a Story
I think this is what makes childhood storytelling photography so meaningful.
It's not just about creating beautiful photographs of your child today.
It's about the little pieces of family history that become part of their story too.
This was once Mum's christening gown.
Now it's been worn by her little girl.
And these photographs will always capture that tiny moment in between, when a treasured part of Mum's own childhood was passed down to her daughter.
One day, this gown will be carefully tucked away as another family keepsake, but these photographs will show it being worn by a little girl full of personality, expressions and her own little character.
And I think that's rather lovely.
A piece of Mum's childhood.
A little girl in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
And a new chapter being added to the story.

FAQ
Where do childhood photography sessions take place in Lincolnshire?
Sessions take place outdoors across Lincolnshire, including woodland, wildflower meadows, parks, and meaningful locations in areas such as Grimsby, Barton-Upon-Humber, Lincoln, Cleethorpes, and the surrounding countryside.
How long does a childhood photography session last?
Childhood photoshoots usually last around 45 minutes, giving children plenty of time to relax, explore, and be themselves without pressure.
What age are childhood photography sessions suitable for?
These childhood storytelling sessions are designed for children from around 6 months (once babies can sit confidently) up to approximately 8 years old. They’re perfect for capturing this beautiful stage of early childhood, from curious babies and toddlers through to playful, expressive young children, all in a relaxed outdoor setting.
What if my child doesn’t want to pose?
If your child doesn’t want to pose, that’s absolutely fine, there’s no pressure at all during the session. I take time to help them feel relaxed and comfortable first, often using bubbles, toys, and gentle interaction so they can settle in naturally.
As they warm up, I use a mix of playful prompts and light direction to create both natural moments and more gently posed portraits, including simple setups where they feel happy and at ease. The goal is always to capture their personality in a way that feels relaxed, enjoyable, and true to who they are.
