Capturing the Wonder of Childhood Through Natural Childhood Photography
Capturing the wonder of childhood through natural childhood photography in Lincolnshire is one of my favourite parts of what I do. These Childhood Storytelling Sessions are designed to document real moments as children explore, play, and connect with the world around them in a relaxed outdoor setting.
There is something so lovely about watching children stop to examine a flower, collect tiny treasures, or become completely immersed in their own little adventure. These are often the moments parents want to remember most.
On a warm summer evening in Barton-Upon-Humber, I met this lovely family for a Childhood Storytelling Session. Surrounded by wildflowers and long grasses, we spent the evening exploring, collecting flowers, and documenting the beautiful details that make this stage of childhood so fleeting and special. It was the perfect setting for natural outdoor childhood photography.
A Childhood Storytelling Session
These sessions are a gentle form of outdoor childhood photography, focused on capturing natural expressions, movement, and connection. Unlike traditional posed portraits, childhood photography like this allows space for children to simply be themselves. There is no pressure to sit still or smile for the camera. Instead we embrace curiosity, imagination, and connection.
Whether they're picking flowers, hunting for bugs, twirling through the grass, or cuddling their little brother, these sessions focus on preserving childhood exactly as it is.
The Little Details You'll Never Want to Forget
One of my favourite things to photograph is the small details that often disappear before we realise they're changing. Tiny hands holding freshly picked flowers. Bare feet running through the grass. The way they concentrate when they're completely absorbed in play.
These are the moments that tell the story of childhood.
Sibling Connection
Some of my favourite moments from this session happened naturally between siblings. There was no posing and minimal prompting, just genuine connection and interaction. Years from now, these photographs won't simply remind them what they looked like. They'll remind them how it felt to be together.

FAQ
Where do childhood photography sessions take place in Lincolnshire?
Sessions take place outdoors across Lincolnshire, including woodland, wildflower meadows, parks, and meaningful locations in areas such as Grimsby, Barton-Upon-Humber, Lincoln, Cleethorpes, and the surrounding countryside.
How long does a childhood photography session last?
Childhood photoshoots usually last around 45 minutes, giving children plenty of time to relax, explore, and be themselves without pressure.
What age are childhood photography sessions suitable for?
These childhood storytelling sessions are designed for children from around 6 months (once babies can sit confidently) up to approximately 8 years old. They’re perfect for capturing this beautiful stage of early childhood, from curious babies and toddlers through to playful, expressive young children, all in a relaxed outdoor setting.
What if my child doesn’t want to pose?
If your child doesn’t want to pose, that’s absolutely fine, there’s no pressure at all during the session. I take time to help them feel relaxed and comfortable first, often using bubbles, toys, and gentle interaction so they can settle in naturally.
As they warm up, I use a mix of playful prompts and light direction to create both natural moments and more gently posed portraits, including simple setups where they feel happy and at ease. The goal is always to capture their personality in a way that feels relaxed, enjoyable, and true to who they are.
