There are some sessions that stay with you long after you've packed away your camera, and this was one of them.
On a warm summer evening, I met this wonderful couple at one of my favourite places in the Lincolnshire Wolds, Red Hill Nature Reserve. As they prepare to welcome their first baby, a little boy, we spent the evening slowing down, wandering through wildflowers, and capturing the quiet excitement that comes before everything changes.
There's something incredibly special about maternity photography. It's a chapter that passes so quickly, yet holds so much anticipation. These are the last few weeks where it's just the two of you, dreaming about the little person you're about to meet.
Why I Love Photographing at Red Hill Nature Reserve
If you've ever visited Red Hill on a summer evening, you'll understand why it's become one of my favourite locations for maternity sessions.
Rolling hills stretch into the distance, wildflowers dance in the breeze, and as the sun begins to set, everything is bathed in the most beautiful golden light. It's peaceful, romantic and feels wonderfully untouched, the perfect setting for photographs that celebrate this incredible season of life.
For this session, we kept everything soft and natural. A flowing cream dress, earthy tones and a simple basket of fresh flowers complemented the landscape beautifully, allowing the focus to remain exactly where it should be, on the connection between this lovely couple and the little boy they can't wait to meet.
A Session Filled with Genuine Moments
One of my favourite parts of every session is creating space for real moments to unfold.
Rather than asking couples to stand and smile at the camera, I gently guide them with simple prompts that encourage natural conversation, laughter and quiet moments together.
As we wandered through the long grass, they talked about becoming parents, imagined the adventures they'd share with their son, and simply enjoyed being together before this exciting new chapter begins.
Those are the moments that become the photographs families treasure for years to come.
More Than Beautiful Photographs
When you book a maternity session with me, my hope is that it feels like much more than having your photographs taken.
It's an opportunity to pause.
To celebrate how far you've come.
To take a deep breath before life changes forever.
Whether we're exploring the rolling countryside, walking through woodland or finding a quiet meadow at sunset, every session is designed to feel relaxed, unhurried and true to you.
The result is a collection of timeless photographs that tell your story honestly and beautifully.

FAQ
When is the best time to book a maternity photoshoot?
The ideal time for a maternity session is between 28 and 34 weeks pregnant. At this stage, your bump is beautifully defined, but you're usually still comfortable enough to enjoy walking around and moving naturally during the session.
I always recommend booking your session after your 20-week scan to make sure we can find the perfect date before your due date gets too close.
What should we wear for our maternity photoshoot?
I recommend choosing outfits in soft, neutral colours such as cream, white, beige, sage green or earthy tones. These colours complement the natural countryside beautifully and create timeless photographs that won't go out of style.
Flowing dresses work particularly well for mums-to-be as they move beautifully in the breeze and gently highlight your bump. Before your session, I'll send you a styling guide to help you choose outfits that photograph beautifully and feel like you.
Can my partner (or older children) be included?
Absolutely!
Maternity photography is about celebrating this exciting chapter as a family, whether it's your first baby or you're already parents. Partners are always encouraged to be involved, and if you already have little ones, they're very welcome to join in too.
We'll capture a mixture of family moments, individual portraits and plenty of natural interactions together.
What if we feel awkward in front of the camera?
Please don't worry if you've never had professional photographs before or feel a little nervous, that's completely normal.
My sessions are relaxed and unhurried, and I'll gently guide you with simple prompts rather than lots of stiff posing. Most couples tell me they were worried beforehand but ended up really enjoying the experience.
The goal is simply to spend time together while I capture genuine moments as they unfold.
Where do maternity sessions take place?
Most of my maternity sessions take place outdoors during golden hour, when the evening light is at its softest and most flattering.
I photograph across Lincolnshire, including beautiful countryside locations, woodland, meadows and rolling hills. If you're not sure where you'd like your session, I'm always happy to recommend some of my favourite locations to suit the look and feel you'd love.
What if the weather isn't great on the day?
Because all of my maternity sessions take place outdoors, I keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to your session. If the weather isn't suitable, such as heavy rain or strong winds, we'll simply rearrange for another date. My priority is making sure you have the best possible experience and beautiful conditions for your photographs.
