Every now and then, a session comes along that reminds me exactly why I fell in love with photography.
This was one of those evenings.
On a beautifully warm summer evening, I met this lovely couple at Red Hill Nature Reserve in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds to capture one of the most exciting chapters of their lives. As they prepare to welcome their first baby, we spent the evening wandering through the wildflowers, watching the sun slowly sink behind the hills, and documenting those precious final weeks before becoming a family of three.
The light that evening was simply unforgettable.
As golden hour arrived, the entire landscape seemed to glow. The warm sunlight wrapped around the hills, the grasses shimmered in the breeze, and everything felt peaceful and still. It was one of those rare evenings where nature couldn't have been more perfect, and it created the most incredible backdrop for telling their story.
Why Red Hill Nature Reserve is My Favourite Maternity Location
I photograph in many beautiful places across Lincolnshire, but Red Hill will always hold a special place in my heart.
With its rolling countryside, winding pathways, sweeping views and endless wildflowers, it offers the perfect setting for maternity photography. Every season brings something different, but summer evenings here are truly magical.
There's space to slow down.
To wander.
To breathe.
Rather than rushing from one pose to the next, we simply explored together, allowing the landscape and the light to guide us. It's this relaxed approach that creates photographs that feel genuine rather than staged.
Capturing the Feeling, Not Just the Photograph
One of the things my clients often tell me is that they don't know how to pose.
The good news is... they don't need to.
Throughout every session, I gently guide you using natural prompts rather than awkward poses, helping you relax into the moment together. Before long, the camera almost disappears, and you're simply enjoying an evening together.
There were so many little moments during this session that couldn't have been planned.
The quiet smiles.
The excitement in their eyes whenever they spoke about meeting their little boy.
The way they instinctively reached for each other's hands as they walked through the long grass.
Those are the moments that become the photographs people treasure most.
Celebrating This Once-in-a-Lifetime Chapter
Pregnancy is such a unique season of life.
It can feel like the weeks pass slowly while you're living them, yet somehow they're over in the blink of an eye. Before you know it, your baby is here, and this chapter exists only in your memories.
That's why maternity photography means so much to me.
It's about preserving the anticipation, the excitement, the connection and the quiet moments before everything changes.
Not just how you looked...
But how it all felt.

FAQ
When is the best time to book a maternity photoshoot?
The ideal time for a maternity session is between 28 and 34 weeks pregnant. At this stage, your bump is beautifully defined, but you're usually still comfortable enough to enjoy walking around and moving naturally during the session.
I always recommend booking your session after your 20-week scan to make sure we can find the perfect date before your due date gets too close.
What should we wear for our maternity photoshoot?
I recommend choosing outfits in soft, neutral colours such as cream, white, beige, sage green or earthy tones. These colours complement the natural countryside beautifully and create timeless photographs that won't go out of style.
Flowing dresses work particularly well for mums-to-be as they move beautifully in the breeze and gently highlight your bump. Before your session, I'll send you a styling guide to help you choose outfits that photograph beautifully and feel like you.
Can my partner (or older children) be included?
Absolutely!
Maternity photography is about celebrating this exciting chapter as a family, whether it's your first baby or you're already parents. Partners are always encouraged to be involved, and if you already have little ones, they're very welcome to join in too.
We'll capture a mixture of family moments, individual portraits and plenty of natural interactions together.
What if we feel awkward in front of the camera?
Please don't worry if you've never had professional photographs before or feel a little nervous, that's completely normal.
My sessions are relaxed and unhurried, and I'll gently guide you with simple prompts rather than lots of stiff posing. Most couples tell me they were worried beforehand but ended up really enjoying the experience.
The goal is simply to spend time together while I capture genuine moments as they unfold.
Where do maternity sessions take place?
Most of my maternity sessions take place outdoors during golden hour, when the evening light is at its softest and most flattering.
I photograph across Lincolnshire, including beautiful countryside locations, woodland, meadows and rolling hills. If you're not sure where you'd like your session, I'm always happy to recommend some of my favourite locations to suit the look and feel you'd love.
What if the weather isn't great on the day?
Because all of my maternity sessions take place outdoors, I keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to your session. If the weather isn't suitable, such as heavy rain or strong winds, we'll simply rearrange for another date. My priority is making sure you have the best possible experience and beautiful conditions for your photographs.
